This time of year in Texas can get pretty dry. My roomie and I have been using hand cream and chapstick like there's no tomorrow! I also have a little drawer in my gym where I keep chapstick, hand cream and other little things I may need throughout the day. A little side note: earlier this week, a student of mine was having chapped lip trouble. He kept complaining to his homeroom teacher about this little issue of his.
Back to my story: My last class of the day is my 1st and 2nd grade class. As they were all strolling into the gym and sitting in their squad lines, I was standing at my counter and putting on some chapstick. My little 1st grade chapped lip friend looked at me and said "Miss Young, I really need some chapstick." I then responded with something along the lines of how chapstick is not for sharing, we don't need to be sharing germs, its a personal thing, ask your mom for some when you get home. He looked at me with sad eyes and said, "But I reallyyyyy need some!" Just then a response popped into my head, and maybe I shouldn't have said it, but it was just too good not to. I said, "You know, if I share my chapstick with you, that would be like our lips would touch, that would be like a KISS!" The whole class started laughing and giggling and making yuck and ewww sounds! It was pretty priceless. I think my little chapped lip friend wont be asking me for chapstick any time soon.
To top it all off, a little oblivious first grade friend then asked her chapped lip friend, "You kissed Miss Young?"
Oh the things kids say... Or I guess I should say: The responses teachers come up with, to the things kids say! :)

It's been too long...
Well well my friends, in case you couldn't tell, the fall semester is the busiest time for any teacher, especially a first year teacher like me! Clearly I have not been keeping up on my blogging, but its a new year so I'm ready to try again! I apologize for being boring and nonexistent, but what can I say, I am a busy gal!! Enough excuses, I'll post again soon with a fall recap and do my best to stay on top to sharing stories through this spring semester!
Happy 2011 :)
Cheers!
